FLAT LAP-DBL DECKER
RAYTECH
You can be rough grinding and finish polishing at the same time with this 18" double pan set-up. Use the top pan with it's special pad for all polishing, and the lower pan for all polishing, and the lower pan for then other stages of grind and pre-polish.
Slabs rotate in a circular orbit so there is little damage to any stone edge. Each pan comes with a heavy duty vinyl tubing around the outer edge to act as a buffer moving slabs and sides of the pan.
The upper pan comes with a polishing pad that can be charged with a variety of polishes for the final process on your slabs. Each pad should only be used with one type of polish. If you need to use different polishes, each should be used with one type of polish pad to prevent contamination. The polishing pad is used over a smooth-surfaced aluminum plate
The lower plate is aluminum finished with special indentations foe use with silicon carbide grits for grinding and sanding flat stones. It comes with a heavy duty vinyl bumper ring to serve as a buffer between moving slabs and edge of pan.
Brackets hold the two pans in place, one above the other, and are designed for easy removal of pans.
Machine is made of non-rusting aluminum castings. Only weighs 50 pounds so can be moved from place to place but it's still heavy enough for stability while in operation.
GRIT SEQUENCE FOR LAPPING
The choice of abrasive grit sizes for the lapping process follows somewhat that in tumbling of stone polishing procedures. The choice also depends upon the material, and preference of the person doing the work. The following sequence of silicon carbide grit is commonly used, and will generally polish most materials: 60/90, 220, 400, 600, 1,000, and then a polish. Generally, the more steps the better the polish.
